Cyber Ready Clinic Launches Clinic at Angelo State University in Texas

San Angelo, TX — July 3, 2026 — The Cyber Ready Clinic today announced the pilot launch of a cybersecurity clinic at Angelo State University (ASU) in San Angelo, Texas, marking the organization's first out-of-state expansion. The pilot, developed in partnership with ASU's Kay Bailey Hutchison Institute (KBHI), builds on the Clinic's growth across mid-Maryland and establishes a model the organization intends to replicate in communities nationwide.

The launch follows Angelo State University's own announcement of the partnership, which pairs cybersecurity professionals from the Washington, D.C.-based Cyber Ready Clinic with ASU cybersecurity students to deliver assessments and resilience-focused services to nonprofit organizations, with a particular focus on underserved and rural communities across West Texas.

A hands-on model for building the cybersecurity workforce

The Cyber Ready Clinic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that delivers real-world security services to other nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations while giving students and emerging professionals hands-on, clinical training. Founded with the support of Ron and Cyndi Gula of Gula Tech Adventures, the Clinic combines an AI-enabled cybersecurity training approach with a clinical methodology modeled on the way teaching hospitals train practitioners — students learn by working directly with real clients under professional supervision.

Since its founding, the Clinic has served over 45 nonprofits, badged 30+ interns, and created 160+ job pathways into the cybersecurity field. The organization is working toward a goal of serving 200 nonprofits and 250 practitioners by 2028. Its recent growth across mid-Maryland — including the appointment of the first Executive Director for the Central Maryland region — laid the groundwork for this first expansion outside the state.

Value for San Angelo and for ASU students

The San Angelo pilot is designed to deliver value on two fronts: strengthening the cyber resilience of local nonprofits that often lack the budget or expertise for professional security assessments, and giving ASU students meaningful, resume-building experience working with real customers.

"Angelo State University continues to lead the nation in its innovative approach to cybersecurity education, having built one of the region's first Regional Security Operations Centers. By expanding the

Cyber Ready Clinic's services to the local nonprofit community, ASU has deepened its commitment to building the next generation of cyber talent in West Texas while bringing enterprise-grade cybersecurity guidance to those who need it most," said John Bruns, CEO of the Cyber Ready Clinic.

The pilot clinic will officially begin operations during the fall 2026 semester. Operating initially on a small scale, it will provide cybersecurity assessments and recommendations to select West Texas nonprofit organizations, laying the foundation for expanded impact across the region and, ultimately, additional clinic sites beyond Texas.
