Cyber Ready Clinic Names Cybersecurity Leader Roy Luongo as First Executive Director for Central Maryland
Washington, D.C. — June 1, 2026 — The Cyber Ready Clinic today announced the appointment of Roy Luongo as its first Executive Director for Central Maryland. A cybersecurity leader with more than 30 years of experience across the public and private sectors, Luongo will lead the clinic's flagship community model, advancing its mission to get nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations cyber ready while preparing the next generation of the cyber workforce through clinical, hands-on training.
Luongo joins the Cyber Ready Clinic following a distinguished career at the highest levels of national cybersecurity. He most recently served as Chief Information Security Officer of the United States Secret Service, where he oversaw all aspects of information assurance, security operations, incident response, and risk management, and led the secure integration of emerging technologies including Zero Trust and generative AI. His earlier roles include Director of the Joint Mission Operations Center for U.S. Cyber Command, Chief of Cyber Operations for the U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms, Director of Red Team Operations at JPMorgan Chase, and NSA Red Team Division Chief, where he led a division of 140 personnel and executed the certification authority for all Department of Defense Red Teams.
Luongo’s enterprise leadership and frontline operational experience will help drive the delivery of Cyber Ready Clinic's service model, focused on cyber capabilities that matter most in the real world, helping close the gaps across CRC’s nonprofit and tax-exempt clients. Luongo's career building and leading security operations centers, red teams, and incident response programs will give CRC interns a leader and mentor who has operated at the scale the clinic prepares them to defend.
"Roy has built and led the type of security programs our practitioners are trained to deliver, and he understands that the nonprofit and tax-exempt community deserves the same program as any Fortune 500 company,” said John Bruns, CEO of Cyber Ready Clinic. “Having a leader of Roy's stature step in as our first Executive Director accelerates CRC’s model to provide hands-on, clinical training to build the next generation of mission-ready defenders.”
The clinic's appointment of Luongo will continue to drive measurable impact since the founding of Cyber Ready Clinic by Ron and Cyndi Gula in late 2024. Over its first 15 months, the Cyber Ready Clinic has served 45+ nonprofits across six (6) Maryland counties, won a $500,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Labor, digitally badged more than 30 practitioner interns, and engaged 20-plus MSPs and four colleges as partners. Its immersive workforce program runs three 10-week clinical cohorts annually, pairing interns with CISO-led training, on-premises client boardroom meetings, a real-world capstone project, and a proficiency exam — and has mapped more than 160 cyber job opportunities into defined workforce pathways. The clinic has set a goal of training over 200 practitioners in Central Maryland by 2028.
A central focus of Luongo's tenure will be the clinic's growing investment in AI-based cybersecurity capabilities and training. As the Cyber Ready Clinic builds AI-driven assessment and remediation into its model, it is equipping the next generation of defenders with the tools and expertise to build enterprise-grade cybersecurity programs anywhere their careers take them beyond the program. Luongo's experience securing the integration of generative AI at the federal level positions him to ensure that capability is delivered responsibly and at scale.
"This is the work I want to be doing," said Luongo. "After decades defending the nation's most critical missions, the chance to build cyber readiness directly into communities — and to develop the next generation of cyber defenders — is the most meaningful next step I could take. The clinical model works because it's real: real clients, real environments, real outcomes. And it scales: every defender we train carries that knowledge forward, building a legacy that multiplies with each cohort. I'm honored to lead that mission in Central Maryland."
Luongo holds a Master of Science in Cyber Security Policy, a Master of Science in Information Management, a Chief Information Security Officer Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, and multiple industry certifications. In 2025 he was recognized with the Cyber Titan Award, named to the Global CISO 100, and inducted as a Distinguished Member of the U.S. Army Cyber Corps.
